Fernie has over 2,500 acres of skiable
terrain on 142 named trails and five bowls
across a large portion of the Lizard Range,
and is serviced by 10 lifts. The runs vary
from long, gentle beginner courses to
        challenging double black diamonds, making
Fernie a great place for skiers and boarders
of all skill levels. And the mountain continues
to expand. In 2012, Fernie welcomed the
new Polar Peak lift, opening even more
        terrain—more than 20 new runs—for winter
        sports enthusiasts to enjoy.

The mountain welcomes groups of all sizes
and abilities, offering individual and group
lift tickets, as well as equipment rentals and
lessons. Telus Winter Sports School is great
for young kids just starting out or adults
looking to improve their skills. Parents can
enroll their little ones in full- or half-day ski
or board lessons with one of many skilled
instructors. Or they have the option of
        doing a Kids’ Adventure Camp, a three-day
program for all skills and abilities. Adults
        can sign up for full-day, half-day, three-day
        or group clinics.

For thrill seekers, Fernie offers a wide
range of back-mountain terrain to explore,
as well as the Fernie Rail Park, where
athletes can jump, slide and spin to their
heart’s desire. And the fun doesn’t have to
stop when the sun goes down. Fernie offers
night skiing on Friday and Saturday nights.

Skiing and snowboarding are not the only
winter activities in which visitors can partake.
Fernie also offers heritage snowshoe tours,
where groups can learn about the town’s
        history and the mountain environment.
Snowmobiling is another popular activity at
Fernie, with half-day, full-day and evening
tours. Guests can also enjoy dogsledding,
        sleigh rides and cross-country skiing.

After a long day on the slopes, there is
plenty of après-ski options. Griz Bar has
been one of the top places for après-ski,
serving up craft beer and delicious food
to visitors since 1962. Other locations
include Lizard Creek Lodge Fine Dining
and Kelsey’s Bar and Grill, among many
        others down in the city.

As for accommodations, Fernie features a
number of hotels and lodges, family-orient-
ed condos and rental homes, and motels,
making it easy for visitors to find exactly
what they’re looking for. Many of the hotels
